WEEKLY PROCEDURES
Welcome to the 2010 Women’s Golf Association season! We are glad that you have decided to join us for a season of fun, friendship, and a little competition. Please review this booklet as it will explain general guidelines and procedures for this year’s events. Note – Events are subject to change as necessary.
Membership: Membership dues cover all event prizes for the season, along with some general WGA expenses. Cash or checks for the $30 payable to WGA must be paid in order to qualify to participate in any WGA events. However, any woman can play on Tuesday without paying dues as long as she does not participate in the WGA events.
When we play: Members of the Women’s Golf Association (WGA) will play each Tuesday beginning on April 27th and ending October 5th.
Tee-times/Sign-up sheets: Sign-up sheets are posted one week in advance in the Ladies locker room for tee times. Please sign up for the time that is the most convenient for you. If you find that you are unable to make your time for any reason, please cal the Pro-Shop in advance so that they may remove your name. Times will be reserved for women’s play in the mornings beginning at 7:30 a.m., and afternoons at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. After your round of play, ladies are encouraged to stay and enjoy either lunch or dinner with their group.
Starting times: We ask that everyone please be timely and be ready to tee off 10 minutes prior to your tee time. Please check with the starter for the format sheet pertaining to the daily event and the start location (front or back nine.) Please chicken with the starter or Pro-shop personnel to see where you shoudl begin play.
Pace of Play: Everyone is expected to maintain our course rate of play which is 4 hours and 7 minutes. Please play ready golf. It is very important to not allow an entire hole to open up in front of you. Please keep pace with the group ahead of you. If for some reason you fall behind, accelerate your pace of play to catch up with the group in front of you or allow the other group to play through.
Matches: It is the responsibility of the player whose name appears on the upper line of each bracket to arrange the time/date of play for a match. All matches must be played within the stipulated time period.
The Rules that govern the WGA are the USGA Rules of Golf. Everyone is encouraged to have a copy of this booklet in their golf bag. Copies are available for purchase in the golf shop.
Handicaps: Establishing a handicap (HDCP) is an important part of playing golf and our computer system is used for this purpose. If you do not already have an established handicap, you need to have five (5) rounds of golf completed and entered into the computer hole-by-hole before you are eligible to participate in the awards portion of our events. You may still play on Tuesdays as a part of the WGA while establishing your handicap.
Maintaining your handicap is done by entering in every score, hole-by-hole, every time you play. You are responsible for knowing your handicap before you tee off as all the games depend of you having this information. Please check the computer or bulletin board outside of the pro-shop before teeing off. (Nine hole golfers: please note that for an uneven number handicap, the extra stroke should be taken on the front 9.)
The Maximum handicap to be used for 18 hole golfers is 44 and 9 hole golfers is 25, except for an event that is designated “full handicap.”
Flights will be established by the Handicap Committee Chairperson and the Golf Pro for both nine (9) and eighteen (18) hole golfers. These will be posted in the ladies locker room. They will be reviewed and changed as needed throughout the summer.
Scorecards must be filled out completely after each WGA event. This means that they must be totaled, signed, dated, attested, and posted in the computer. Also, be sure to print your last name and first initial on all cards. Place the completed cards in the baskets or special event containers located on the desks in the ladies locker room.
Awards: Awards are given in each flight for both 9 and 18 hole golfers. The games last all day long and anyone who plays with another WGA member on Tuesday, regardless of tee time, is eligible for prizes. Awards will be in the form of sweeps dollars (credits in the pro-shop). Winners names will be posted in the Ladies locker room. Chip-in and deuce award money will be paid out on any day that you are playing in an official WGA event and will be noted on the event result sheets in the Ladies locker room. All credits must be redeemed in the pro-shop by December 24, 2010.
Ghost: When there are only three people on your team and four players are needed for the game, then a ghost must be designated. Each of the three players would rotate a turn as the ghost. You must decide the order that each of three play as ghost before teeing off. Use that same rotation throughout the game and mark a ball as the ghost ball.
SEASON LONG COMPETITIONS/SPECIAL EVENTS
June Medal: This event begins on June 1st. Any round played with a WGA member in June may be written in the June Medal notebook found in the Ladies locker room; each participant will have their own score page. The four best rounds will be added together to determine the winner. Nine (9) hole golfers must play two rounds on each nine. Eighteen (18) hole golfers must complete both nines on the same day. Everyone needs to have all rounds signed, attested, dated, and entered into the computer. This event starts June 1 and ends June 30th – no exceptions.
Ringers: The ringers event will begin on Tuesday in June randomly chosen by the Pro-Shop. This will be considered your “base” score. Only scores played on a Tuesday will be posted for this event. The Pro-Shop will maintain these scores after each round of play. Again, all scores must be signed, dated, attested, and entered into the computer. Winners (9 and 18 hole) will be awarded at the end of the season based on the greatest percentage of improvement! Ringers is approximately a 12 week long event.
Helen Hulick Invitational: This day is designated for WGA members to invite a non-member to be a guest for a fun filled one day event. There will be a nominal fee for guests and lunch. This is an eighteen (18) hole event. An awards luncheon will follow.
Season Long Match Play and Individual Challenge Cup Event: These events will be played as either 9 and 18 hole event. Handicaps used will be the difference between the lowest handicap golfers and higher handicaps (Play off the low handicap, see golf shop with questions). Nine (9) hole golfers may play the front nine or back nine as agreed upon by the group. In the event of a tie, golfers will play sudden death. The player who is unable to play on the last designated day must default. Any questions, please ask the event chairperson or the club pro. You may request a scorer for your match.
Club Championship: This is an 9 and 18 hole event. The first round will be held on Tuesday, August 3 and the second round on Wednesday, August 4. (Please keep Friday, August 6 open for a rain date.) Any adult lady golfer in the club is welcome to participate. This event is a medal play format and participants must sign up by noon on Friday, July 30. Pairings will be posted in the Ladies locker room by Monday, August 2. Flights will be determined by handicap. Anyone wishing to automatically be placed in the championship flight must declare so on the sign-up sheets. Tee times will be set up by the committee. On the last day, the leaders of the championship flight will be given the last tee time to allow other players to watch the finishing holes. You must be able to play both days. The traditional champagne luncheon will follow play on Wednesday, August 4. Prizes for the Club Championship winners will be awarded at this time. All golfers and guests are encouraged to follow play and attend the luncheon (reservation requested)
Extended Play: After three consecutive days or more of unplayable weather, the June and July events will be extended for only the number of days that the course was closed. Immediately following the reopening of the course, a notice will be posted in the Ladies locker room indicating the number of days play will be extended.
Most improved: A minimum number of twelve (12) rounds must be entered in the computer by the player to be eligible for this award. An award will be given to both 9 and 18 hole player.
Chip-ins/Deuces: Chip-in and deuce credits will be awarded for any day that you are playing in an official WGA event with another WGA member. If a player gets a chip-in and deuce on the same hole, only one payment will be given. Chip-ins and deuces will be noted on the weekly event results sheets.
